Audition Coaching

Sitting in on thousands of auditions every year as a music director or accompanist gives Caryl Fantel a unique perspective on what makes a successful audition...and she shares her experience in workshops and coaching sessions.

“Whether it be preparing for a callback or audition, or a lead role in a musical, I always call Caryl Fantel for help. She is an expert musician with a great ear, and a knack for choosing just the right audition cut for the right role. As a theatre professional, I have booked countless jobs thanks to her guidance, honesty, and knowledge (and even got a Carbonell nomination thanks to her help preparing me for Paulette in Legally Blonde)! I highly recommend Fantel Music to everyone from beginner to professional level."

Caryl shares tips with performers preparing for the South Florida Unified Auditions

Caryl has served as Music Director and/or Audition Accompanist for musical theatre auditions from New York to Florida, including accompanying auditions for the Broadway and National Tour productions of The Book of Mormon, and the musical theatre programs of New York University (NYU), Emerson College, and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), as well as Broadway Dreams and Making It On Broadway. She has accompanied workshops led by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (writers of AnastasiaOnce on this IslandRagtime and more), Gavin Creel, Alice Ripley, Norm Lewis, Annaleigh Ashford, Corey Cott, Rory O'Malley, Christopher J. Hanke, Jose Llana, Sheri Sanders, Nick Blaemire, Michael Mastro, Morgan James, Natalie Weiss, and other Broadway notables. Caryl has developed her own audition workshop and collaborates with others in presenting them for the South Florida Theatre League and universities, high schools and performing arts programs.

Caryl works with performers on:

  • Choosing appropriate audition material

  • Finding the right musical keys for your songs

  • Preparing sheet music for audition accompanists

  • Creating effective performance resumes

  • What to expect at auditions

  • Dressing for auditions

  • Marketing yourself to land work in the musical theatre arena

"Caryl Fantel is an incredible audition coach. Her honesty is her best quality. In our sessions, I feel comfortable pushing myself to try new material because I know she always wants me to represent myself in the room to the best of my abilities. Her kindness and compassion help her get a feel for you as a person rather than just another student, allowing her to help you choose material that showcases not only your vocal range but your personality, as well. Every time I go to Caryl, I am confident she has prepared me to nail my auditions. With Caryl's guidance, I have worked at almost all the regional theatres in South Florida, including Actors' Playhouse, Slow Burn and MNM Theatre Company."
